View original topic: Tranny question Beetle with Thing CV Joints

Ok, saga continues.

It appears I have a beetle tranny 68-72. I measured the cups. They are 94mm approx. I measured the axle stub cups, approx 100mm. I checked the CV joints. At the tranny, they are beetle size. At the axle side, they are Thing size.

Any input for issues with mix matched CV Joints and tranny other than lack of angle degrees in beetle cv joint?

I do not have off road plans. I would think this set up is fine for daily street use.

Thoughts?

The Beetle CVs are not as strong nor do they articulate as much as Thing CVs. For street use, you should be OK, however you may over extend the inner CV joint, if you hit a pot hole or something else that causes the suspension to travel to the max.

Or you can just get Thing flanges for the tranny and put Type 2 CVs in.

I have Thing flanges and and stub axles with T2 CVs on my Beetle.

That does not solve the articulation problem.
