| I tend to shy away from it, mainly because the new 2.5L engine hasn't been getting good reviews. The GTI seems to be the only new VW worth buying (until the new TDIs come out.) |

I have not heard anything bad about the 2.5, other than a lack of power in that weight of a car. Some good news on that front though, they are about to add 20hp to the stock 150, they will begin to build them with a multi-valved head...
The 5-cyl. has been around for 20+ years, and is dead solid. They made a good choice putting that motor in there, the bottom end is near bullet-proof. |

I bought one for the wife the day they hit the dealer lot. They are very nicley equipped standard. the four doors even come standard with heated seats/mirrors...ect.
The 2.5 has an amazing amount of torque down low but falls flat on its face after 4000RPM. I think that VW purposely detuned the motor as to not compete with the GTI. it should have no problem making 200hp NA and I am crossing my fingers that the aftermarket steps up to the plate soon. I want a cam and a chip....please...
All that torque does make for a great in town car, but the gas mileage is lacking. I average about 22 in town sometimes 18, I got consistent 28-30mpg in the 1.8t jetta wagon I traded in for this car :( and it was faster.
The new rabbit is also alot bigger than the previous golfs. It is actually the same size as the last passat so the interior is huge and it can haul 5 adults with ease. |
