| I just had something interesting happen. I have a 71 super with what I THOUGHT was a stock steering wheel. Well, supposedly the second to last owner just drove by, saw the car and stopped to talk to me about trading the original stock steering wheel for the one that's on the car now. He gave me some story about how he put this car's wheel on a convertible and it didn't fit and when he sold it to the PO, she had agreed to give it back but never did. Now I have it and he wanted his steering wheel and I wasn't necessarily buying his story especially seeing how my wheel fits just right, it's in good shape and the horn and turn signal work just fine. I sent him on his way not wanting what he had to offer. The more I work on the vehicle, the more I realize how much of the car is not original. So, a non original steering wheel isn't going to hurt me as long as it works real well. However, it got me wondering just what does the original steering wheel look like. This guy said it's definitely different but it's looks the same as the other similar year bugs I encounter. Can someone please post a picture of a stock orginal 1971 super steering wheel for me so I can be educated and see if the guy's story was an honest one or not? Thanks! |

Scroll down to the bottom of the aforemetioned webpage. Click on the picture on the right. That is what your steering wheel should look like. |

| No problem. It is possible that you have a steering wheel from a later model bug. Does your steering wheel have four points in which you can push it and the horn will blow? Does it have a picture of a wolf standing on a castle howling (wolfsburg wolf). It if does then you have a later model wheel. |

| Yes and yes. I actually like this steering wheel better than the original. It seems like there is more to it - larger surface area and bigger grip when steering. |
