Well, fitting that my first post is a question. I suppose that is normal though.

Did a search, but didn't see anything.

Are all rear windows interchangeable, say after 1968?

Is there a interchange list for glass?

I know rear glass can be very expensive. I am acquring a '71 Std and know of a salvage yard with a very nice 1973-1975 Super Beetle. They are crushing cars this week and if the rear glass fits a '71, I would take it out and store it. I might even consider taking the doors and decklid since they are rust free.

Nice car, too bad it gets crushed this week.

BTW, I don't suppose a Super Beetle sedan windshield fits a Super Beetle convertible?

I have a 1979 Convertible. It doesn't need a windshield, but it may one day.

You are correct -- a Super Beetle Sedan windshield will not fit a Super Beetle Convertible.

That sucks. But, I'm not surprised.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.

Anyone have any ideas about rear glass for sedans..what years interchange?

i know the rear window on my 72 is different that the window in my 69. I did put a 68 rear window in my 69 though. If you're interested I have my old rear window from my 69..... It has the factor defroster in it too!

The rear glass is different in year groups.

They are: 1965-71 then 1972-77.

And both Super and Std. are the same and will both interchange. Some will have the Heated Element strips, other's will not. You can check out the Eis (Econo International Supply) website for a start and see the part #'s.

Thanks. I'll add that to my parts book notes.

Try BFY Obsolete Parts (think it's www://bfyobsoleteparts.com) also.
They have a good selection of glass...and one of the few I've found that have the rear glass with defroster element.

why don't you buy that super from the salvage yard and part it out?

If I had the room, I would, but not to part it out. The sedan in the salvage yard has less rust than the two I am refinishing.

It's a shame I didn't see it before.

just wondering, will coupe vent windows fit convertible doors?

propflux01 Sat Apr 28, 2007 3:19 pm

Buy it! save it from the crusher yard! surely you have a friend with some yard-space!! lol

Where in eastern nc You from? I'm in Beaufort. Hate to see car go to waste! I'm in need of decklid maybe doors Myself! I have '72 decklid on My '68 that is dented up and might need doors depending on how bad rust is! Have plenty of room to store and strip car! Scott

Sorry folks, I wish I could have bought it, but with two under the wrench now, I couldn't swing it. Town ordinance forbids the two I have now, so I'm trying to lay low.

I went out to the junk yard a couple of weeks ago.

The VW is the only car out of that particular line of cars that was crushed.

BTW Scott, I'm up in Pitt County, near Greenville.

That sucks! Glad I live out away from restrictive city ordinances! I live on 7 acres and have tons of shop space! Hope it stays that way and suburbs don't creep any closer! Scott
