Hi John, it does have the KDF/VW windmill/flying swastika logo, I don't know how long that made it past 1945, what with the swastika component being so obvious.
I think the part is also on ebay at the moment with better pictures:

I seem to have read somewhere that that flying swastika logo was a part vendor specific thing. If you can see it closely, it does not have the "cogs" on the outside of the VW logo. It is similar to the spinning swastika VW logo hubcaps that were made for the aftermarket and often scorned upon for their likeness to the Nazi symbol. Perhaps this one was so small an innocuous nobody noticed.
I have found in in many early '50s original handles. |

I suppose that new moulds were not an option first thing after the war, there must have been more immediate problems, but I'm suprised it made it so long; as you say though, it's not obvious. The windmill logo seems to have had quite a short life, I have found it on a few schwimmwagen parts, most notably the later 2 piece front differential housing, but in general it's usually the cogged logo.

Looks to me you would have a hell of a time wiring that thing without the portion that mounts on the column. I don't see it in any of the pictures. |

| I might be inclined to run it on a bus, but that hub seems way out of proportion for a bug. |

It just goes not along with the clean and simple lines of a beetle.
And for that money IŽd buy a car, not a steering wheel. |
