Hey! Got a 74 type 1 bug that won't start. Starter motor recently replaced and battery fine and dandy. Turn the switch and nothing...except that the oil pressure warning light flicks on and off and makes a weird noise coming from back somewhere. Tried giving the starter a good old boot up the backside...nothing. Would normally jump start the wee bugger but am blocked in! Help! What's going on?

If all the dash lights come on and everything else electrical seems to work then I'll bet the wire to the starter has fallen off. Jack up the car, put something solid under the car in case the jack slips, block the wheels, and slide under there and see if the wire is connected to the starter. It's a slide connector.

Also check the wires that connect to the ignition switch. Make sure nothing is loose back there. It is possible you have a faulty ignition switch. You said you had the Starter motor replaced, did that include a new solenoid as well? You could have a bad starter Solenoid as well..

Check the battery voltage.
If its below around 12.5 volts, you may have a weak battery.
You could try one of those portable battery booster packs.
I don't leave home without a charged one. |

Cheers peeps! Haven't had chance to jack the wee blighter up yet but have checked the wiring as far as I can by crawling under and it all seems A OK. Noticed that when the ignition switch is turned the fan belt pulley is oscillating in time with my strange ticking noise. Does this mean the fly wheel gear ring is knackered?
