Hey VW heads. I am going on vacation from 3 to 10 April. We have a trip planed to go to GLAMIS from 5 to 8 April. Any VW Clubs going to be there ?
I am new to GLAMIS this will be my first time. We will be bringing ATV's and 1 Sand Rail.
Is it fun ? I am a thrill seeker, looking for some excitement
If you have been give me some info - please and some pics. |

| Make sure you have whips for the bikes and the buggie, also if you have never ridden in dunes before make sure you don't go over any Razorbacks at high speed.Turn and parrallel the razor at the top before you drop into the other side. When you get there hit the ranger station on Gekko road and pick up a permit.Be careful and drive defensively. There a lot of really high powered cars out there and people don't always watch out for others. It should be a great time but be careful, especially on a big weekend.I prefer to camp in the washes.Wash 9 or 10.They are more family freindly. If you like to party and stay up all night then Gekko road is the place for you.Have fun and take some pics. |

| Baja 5 is correct, it is a very dangerous place on slow weekends let alone the packed ones. Lost many a freind out there because of people not using their head. $100k buggy doesnt make you king of the dunes. someone dies there just about every week end. Dont get me wrong I am not trying to piss on you parade, it is a hell of a lot of fun. |

| yeah, find a whip with the largest most obnoxious flags and lights you can. Especially for the ATVs. It's one thing to get hit in a rail (not good), another to get hit on a quad (really really not good). |

Just dont ride out side your ability and you should be ok.
This is what happens to the people that try to keep up with a much more experinced group.

| I should have said it earlier but to avoid the idiots (for the most part) go to Gordons. It is the same dune system except further south where Interstate 8 cuts through. Glamis is where Hwy 78 crosses the dunes. I have always preferred Gordons for the crowd factor (even named my dog Gordon). There is a little rowdiness but nothing like the "Flat-bill, black sock" mecca that is Glamis. |

I'm back. I had a BLAST !!! Best time I ever had.
I believe I graduated:
- stayed for 4 days (with a circle of 3 RVs and 5 trailers)
- road a sand rail
- road a quad
- conquered Oldsmobile Hill :D
- road sand dune (day and night) whoa watch out for the cliffs
- road drag strip in 450hp Corvette Rail
- I busted my chin on the handle bars of a quad (hit a steep sand dune)
- bruised my leg (kept on riding)
- bought the t-shirt
Definitely coming back for Halloween. |
