I need to replace the clutch pedal lever that the cable attaches to. How does the lever and shaft come out of the pedeal assembly? Am I right in thinking that you just have to remove the pin at the base of the clutch pedeal that goes through the pedal and lever/shaft piece? Any suggestions are most welcome.

thats about it, it should come apart once the pin is out
note: the pin is designed to go in/come out one way

Thanks. That's what I thought. The pin on mine is so rusted that it doesn't want to move. I'll have to try harder.

See this Parts Page-> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/0.pedal.assy.htm and check out the return spring when your doing it. Vic.

I had a tough time when I did this on my '75 SB, the clutch pedal lever and the brake pedal lever refusted to separate. Finally my dad put the whole thing in a vise and heated it up with his oxyacetylene torch and everything came apart easily. Problem was the spring was so rusted it broke. Then I couldn't find a replacement spring, I was faced with buying the whole pedal cluster assembly anyway.

Thanks,

I got the pin out with lots of pounding with a hammer and sccrew driver but now I can't budge the pedal off of the clutch lever (the bar the goes from inside the bottom of the clutch pedal to the lever where the cable attaches). Maybe heat is the answer but I was holding out on buying a torch. Since the rest of the car is already apart, this is the is probably the only place I'll need it.
