Not as though safety is the 1st thing on my mind when I'm packing the kids in for a ride, but has anyone thought about or ever installed a 3rd seatbelt in the back of the Thing?

You mean they weren't stock? My Thing came to me with two seat belts in the back.

If they don't come with those, I'd highly recommend adding them!

I think he wants 3 sets in the back. I think it would work if the 3 kids were small enough.

I've got the same problem, so we usually just have them double buckle. I thought about adding one to the middle using the existing bolts, but I don't want to take them out for fear of not getting them to stay.

I've got a pretty sturdy roll cage, so I figure as long as they're inside that, they're as safe as they're going to get in a Thing.

Oops, I thought the "third" meant in addition to the front two.

I see no reason why a middle one couldn't be added to the back seat though.

I added a third in the back using the existing bolts. Works great for kids.

Well I bought an extra seatbelt already....

So it would make sense to just add a centre seatbelt to the existing seatbelt bolts closer to the middle. I haven't taken the time to carefully measure, but would there actually be enough room for a 10 year old between the 2 centre belts.

PS: I have triplet 10 year olds...a little on the small side. And a really protective wife who won't allow a child to be locked in the same belt together...and obviously she has a really whipped husband. LOL

Ha! All things considered, you'd better maintain that car well, or she'll stop letting you drive them around in it at all! ;)

I went to a pick your part wrecking yard and for 10 bucks I found the belts out of a late 80's mercedes , factory repa belts. I used the latches and catches and had a friend sew them on to the outter belts , The center one bolted right in. It works perfect for small kids and its good german stuff. I just shiped the car to Oahu last month so when I stop having so much fun driving it around here I'll post some pics of the belts. If any of you guys or girls make it to the Islands look me up . John
