i got a 1600dp motor, basically stock that i'm rebuilding. I found a dual advance/retard dist in my box of parts that looks in really good shape, but the vacuum advance unit has the nipple that's broken off.
here are the #'s on the dist:
JFU 4
0 231 167 070
113 905 205AN
I'm wondering what the dist is from and if i can use it on my motor, i currently have a 009, and stock 34pict
can i use this single advance vacuum pod on my distributor?: https://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D311%2D905%2D271
thanks. |

I believe that carb was made for a dual vacuum distributor. The 205AN is a late distributor and should work for your engine/carb.
That vacuum unit is not meant for that distributor.
Glenn might be able to help, he seems to be a distributor guru. |

| The picture is the same but there is a menu to select advance (single vacuum) or advance and retard (dual vacuum...the one your dist is meant to have). |

I'm still learning about them myself, we're now officially on the verge of being over my head.....but here's what I THINK is the case:
That single vac pot may fit, but I believe the vacuum signal from your carburetor will be too strong for it. Also, I don't think the 205AN has any mechanical advance function like an SVDA.
Is there a particular reason you don't want to run the dual vacuum? |

yes, i would like to order from CIP because if i order one $20 part from aircooled, then the shipping, exchange, duty, tax, broakerage will end up costing me $80 (i'm in canada).
i thought the distributor has mechanical advance??

| This distributor has both vacuum and mechanical (centrifugal) advance. I'm not sure about the advance only vacuum can, but the dual vacuum can has a built in spring that re-positions the distributor. I tried to install a single vacuum can on the samedistributor that would work with my carb, but without the spring in the can, it won't re-position. I suggest you buy the dual can. You can always leave the retard line off and use the distributor as a SVDA. |
