What is missing and what is wrong?

air cleaner
distributer cap
coil
rotor
vacuum advance
spark plug wires
exhaust

incorrect:
voltage regulator
larger slot generator
pulleys
generator nut

I'm sure the experts will come and find a lot more and/or correct what I've listed. :)

This is the engine out of my Sept '54. I believe it is all original, right down to the filth!

The air cleaner & oil filler aren't correct for a 1953-55 engine. Those parts belong on a 1956-60 36hp :wink:

Good stuff, but it seems the original post was changed to a 1957 engine, so all those incorrect parts you listed are now correct for a '57. But what about the floating carburetor :lol:

RareAir,

For a '57 - would the crankshaft pulley be the larger diameter, smooth faced version instead of the version shown in the first picture of this thread? Not trying to be critical, just learning.

All (25/36hp, 1200 & 1600) crank pulley's were the same diameter. The one shown below looks to be correct for a 1600cc engine

When you state "smooth face", I'm assuming without those starburst-like lines.

Thanks for the answer - the picture in your post shows the 1200 - 1600cc style pulley. Just trying to learn and source the correct parts for my '57 engine.

Actually, there is a difference in the pulley diameters. The 25?/36 h.p. version (left) is 7.2" in diameter and the 1200 - 1600 version (right) is 6.7" in diameter. Might be tough to see the 1/2" difference in the picture below, but it's there. Or do I have some odd-ball versions?

You are correct the 36 hp crank pulley is slightly larger. The commonly available crank pulley removal assist tool will not work with the 36 hp pulleys.

The pulley pictured on the Left is a 1956-later pulley. Pre '55 pulley's do not have that curved lip on the outside edge.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I have that part covered for my '57.

Next question - Fan Shroud: Would a correct '57 shroud have the recessed area in front of the air cleaner? When did that feature begin?

Back to the original question - Those heater boxes look to be the '58 - '61 style. There is a good thread with pictures on correct heater boxes in the Split forum.

Yeah, Glen pointed that out too. Now how is my oil filler attached to the stand? There isn't a nut inside like the newer style and there isn't a tapped hole on the boss below or the retaining tab for that matter. Is it just a friction fit?

edit: I went out and dug through the grime. The tab has been cut off, so I just it's just shoved into the hole, no wonder it was slobbering like a 9 month old! Anybody got the right filler and tab for this engine?
