View original topic: 7mm flywheel dowels in a 36hp?

I'm working on an engine and need to replace the flywheel (the previous engine "builder" didn't seem to care that you can't use a 12 volt starter on a 6 volt flywheel).

I have a whole stack of flywheels with 5.8-6mm dowel holes. But the one on this engine has 7mm dowel holes. And it is a 6 volt flywheel (same teeth spacing).

Has this flywheel been drilled, or did VW use 7mm dowels in later years. All of my spare flywheels are probably oval era.

I'm presuming, worst case, that I can just have one of my flywheels drilled for 7mm.

Thoughts??

i have never seen one either.
i would bet that the flywheel came loose at one time and they fixed the crank and flywheel with a larger pin.
just like puting 11/32 pins in a 1600
