I have a dilemma... I'd like to get rid of my 009 distributor for a vacuum advance distributor. I have an H30/31 carb, so my only choice is a SVDA from AirCooled.net. I also have a rebuilt 070 dist (which won't work with the H30/31). Which carb will work with the 070?
Would it be better to buy the SVDA dist or a carb for the 070? |

Not sure which way to tell you to go, but.... If you go with a carb - the 070 is the "AN" by VW's number, and on the chart below, it was originally mated with a few different 34PICT-3s. When you combine a DVDA distributor with an SVDA carb, you can run into problems (I've seen it), and sometimes with generic aftermarket carbs as well. Will you if you try a new 34PICT-3? Hard to say, you might get lucky and it'll run good. but I think your best bet might be to find a good-condition original DVDA carb to go with the 070 (any of the 5ATDC timing ones listed below)
