sorry i want all new hardware for body bolts doors everything

Hotrodvw Sun Apr 29, 2007 1:38 pm

Take your OEM ones to a fastener house, and have them duplicate your lot in SS. A kit will prob cost you more money.

There is also a place called '' totally stainless'' , I bought some for my bug . they have bumper kits, etc. Most of mine I just went to the hardware store and got them a little at a time. The bumper bolts where exposed so I wanted them to look real nice . so I just ordered the kits from them

We have them in stock. We have them button head style so they look the cleanest after the install. They pretty much do everything.

The same exact kit can be bought direct from Totally Stainless for less money.

Here's a pic of their kit....You can also get other kits. Look through the catalog.

You can try LanD Products out of Canada for all your stainless stuff. This is the stuff that Lanny Hussey uses on all his show cars up there. It's not cheap, but nice stuff with allen heads, and aluminum washers with all screws and bolts. I've gotten the fender kit, hood and decklid kit, and bumper kit. Nice stuff.

I got my kit from Airkewld - it's a Totally Stainless manufactured/packaged kit.

Piece of insight after beginning reassembly - the allen button hardware kits are a major pain in the ass. Unless you're going all-out show - which I'm not - stick to hex-head. The allen button bolts look sweet, but are a major pain to install. Had I know the additional amount of time I'd spend installing everything just because of the additional pain in the ass of the hardware I would have either stuck to stock or gotten as much hex-head stuff as possible.

What do you mean by 'Pain in the Ass"?
you didn't have the right allen keys, or what? I can't think of an easier fastener.. The allens take up less space then the wrenches and or sockets you use to remove the originals. The ones from LanD are not polished for the fenders, and they look good. Before saying they were a pain in the ass, explain your pain in the ass you experienced. I know that if you get allen bolts from the hardware store, quality checks aren't done and you'll get bolts with shallow allen wells in the button and pan head screws, which will make stripping the heads very easy. This is the only pain in the ass i've had the pleasure of dealing with whether it be my car, or my old mini-bike i re-built It looks sharp.. But then again, polished stainless is nice however you do it.

You can get the allen headed tools for your ratchet set. This would make the job 10x easier (especially if you were having to use a screwdriver of sorts...)

Im thinking of going this route.

It was always my understanding that when going stainless, the grade must be considered. Apparently a lot of stainless hardware is a lower grade and very soft--should not be used in some applications. I discovered this when replacing some regular bolts and nuts with stainless, they were much softer. I know you can get better grade stainless (cant remember the number) but never bothered to search. This thread is really helpful.

If you are on the coast, where there are marine supply stores, you can buy stainless hardware there.
I get my stainless through a marine supplier I found on Ebay. Prices are very good.
Also, you can go to BoltDepot.com. They have a lot of stainless metric hardware.

i am a total noob, pleeze be gentle with the blowtorch...does the stainless steel set from Totally Stainless include the bolts that mount the front beam to the pan? i am building a rat with a beam extender and would need to order 4 extra bolts. I cant seem to find a part number to order them separately in their catalog. I tried ARP too, but i'm a little ( o.k., a lot ) confused. Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? Frye?
