hi,
to put you in the picture:
'67 westy walkthru, 1500SP 12V(of course)
I knew the PO didn't have wipers and asked him to put ones before selling me the bus. Until today the wipers worked (only in one speed, but worked).
I knew PO installed new wiper parts from WW, I don't know if only few missing parts or just all the assy...
Today I picked up the bus for the first time under the rain, so I needed wiper's aid. after five or ten minutes they stopped and didn't want to work more... :(
I checked fuses and are ok
It's easy to reach the wiper motor in an easy way? or should I remove the dash tray... from what I could see from under the dash I don't see the motor...

My guess would be that the motor packed it in. You can check to see that it was wired properly first as you mention you only had one speed. There are great wiring schematics in the technical section of the site. Also since you mentioned that the PO installed a motor before selling you may find that you don't have a correct (1967 only motor).
Here you can see what a 1967 assembly and motor should look like.
The motor is accessed the easiest from the passenger side. Remove the parcel tray and you'll see it between the defrost vents. Now that it's cooled off (guessing it got pretty hot) it may work again but you'll be working on borrowed time. Happy hunting.[/img] |

I don't understant what you mean with that...
I also looked at the class section and at the 'usual' parts supliers and didn't find '67 motors... :( They are hard to find? |

In this case he means that the motor may have failed.
And yes '67 motors can be terribly difficult to find since it was a one-year-only motor.
I would think that since it did work for you that there may be some problem with the wiring job or that somewhere in the linkage there may be some binding. Lubrication of the assembly gets ignored since it can be difficult to get to.
Just confirm that the wiring has no problems first. It would probably be best to disconnect all of the mechanical links so that the motor isn't trying to push a load while testing. |

Thanks Jerry, yes I meant that the motor may be NFG. I'd do as Jerry mentioned. In fact I didn't find it that hard to remove the motor and assembly all together. Easier if you don't have a radio installed. As it isn't simply as easy as disconnecting the pivots and running the motor without any load while it's still in the bus you may find it to be the only way to try this.
The reason you see pictures of my '67 assembly out of the bus is because of similar situations. In my case the pivot (the part actually attached to the wiper) was seized up which caused all kinds of problems. Best of luck.
My motor was fine but I ended up doing a conversion to an earlier assembly. Major Woody has done a similar swap and we've both had good results. Might be your easiest solution. |
