I was looking through previous posts on seat belts, and had a few questions of my own. I'm sure of one thing, these holes in the tunnel are for the front seat belts.
I'm just not sure where they mount on the other side. Did these beetles come with lap belts or just shoulder belts?
I did find these holes behind the b-pilar which i think are for the rear lap belts. These are in the heater channel. The body right now is off of the pans, just for clarification of the picture.
Here's a zoomed out picture of the same area
I think that these mounts would be for the rear seat belts also. They are on the luggage compartment and I can't think of anything else that they would be for.
After reading posts about shoulder belts, I think my previous owner either did not want them, or didn't know about them. Here is what my b-pilar looks like.
Although, I can lift up the liner and feel that there is a hole there, I just would like some confidence that I'm not going to put a hole in my liner that is uneccessary.
Any help on any one of these questions would be appreciated.

Prior to '67, seat belts were most commonly installed by dealers as an option. The outboard anchor for the seat belt was usually put through the floor pan on a backer plate with a square nut welded to it. The backer plate was tacked to the pan. Here's a pic from my '65, but my '63 had a very similar setup.

Here's a shot where you can see the shoulder mounting point. Look on the "B" pillar near the ash tray. You'll see the big plastic plug. My '63 also had the big plastic plug for rear shoulder belts near the back of the quarter windows.

Thanks for the help. I was thinking of making a plate just like that for the front seats. Does anyone know anything about rear seat belt mounts, or if mine are the actual mounts?

See if this helps. It's newer than a '63 but I think the anchor points are similar. "C" is the pivot for the seatback. "A" and "B" are for seatbelt anchors.

One more question. What exactly is the pivot for the seat back? In your picture it just looks like a bolt. My beetle does not have this piece in the body right now and I was wondering if i could substitute a bolt for the actual piece or if it really mattered. Any help is again appreciated

| The bolt is not threaded all the way to the head. That way it cant be screwed all the way in. That allows the seatback to pivot forward without binding. |
