sorry for bringing back an old post, but i just finally finished my setup and wanted to post it! i used some of the ideas from this thread so i wanted to post it.
first off, i got the fusion internal ipod dock radio and love it! the only 2 complaints i have are that:
1) you cant use the shuffle function, which is kind of a bummer for me since thats what i use a lot.
2) you cant listen to a song and have a new one all ready on a different playlist or something. if you look up a song, then stop doing anything on the radio, it will go back to the screen that comes up with the songs name or whatever and you will have to go back through all your songs to find the next song you wanted to play (hopefully i described that correctly?)
and the inside with my ipod in it
front speakers are kenwood kfc sp709's, and so far they're great! they came with tweeters that i decided to mount in my fresh air vents, like some one did a few pages back
another idea i took from this thread were my back speakers. i mounted some insignia outdoor speakers on the ceiling and im very happy with them

someone had a real slick way of mounting rear speakers that had some aluminum like chanel that fit nicely on his rain gutter for outdoor listening.
I can not find the thread
Anyone know what I am referring to? |

If you have a pre-1973 bus with a walk thru and bulk head panels, you can put some 4" w/ tweeters into the hole in the seat stand that faces upwards. it is just behind the seats. They will give you good highs and you don't have to loose your air vents for tweeters. Put your main speakers in the doors. This will give you a fairly nice sounding stereo for anything but jungle music. Add an amp if you want a little more clarity without distortion at volume. When you are on a trip at night you can turn it down and still hear it while someone is sleeping in the back. If you put speakers in the back then when you are on a long trip and someone is sleeping they will have a harder time staying asleep and when it is your turn to sleep and they drive - well your life is in their groggy hands. Put a switch in and speakers in the back if you want music back there sometimes but not always.
On later buses that hole is not there and adding speakers in the kick panels is too low - the highs get lost. |

HAs anyone mounted a small set of speakers in the wooden headliner of a westy behind the two front seats? Is there room and how does it sound?
I have two speakers in the kick panels and am looking at installing two extra. I prefer to cut the baltic birch headliner and not the cabinets in back. I also do not want it to be too loud in back for the kids.
Thanks? |

Hey, do you have any photos of how you run the speaker wire to the door? (Is there already a wire channel on late bays?) I am looking to do this, but don't know if I need to just drill through, and how to keep the wire from getting stuck in the jamb.... thanks! |

Have you looked at your door jamb? No need to drill. There are holes already there.
here is an example:
If you need more holes, here is an example of where/how to drill them:

I know this is an old post but all I could think while looking at it (after being like "that is a clean and sweet setup" so no offense) is I hope you never have a windshield leak, a leak from the wiper grommets, or EVER have to get to your wiper motor.

Actually the iPhone is new.

4 channel amp, it’s nice to have everything under the dash and out of the way. It clears the dash vent ducting.
Noise filter and USB for the iPhone
