1989 Cabrio and it's running/starting very poorly. Feels like it's missing on one cylinder, won't idle. I had read about a "classic" problem with the fuel injection system with one injector not working until it warms up. So I revved it up for awhile (won't idle) to see if it would smooth out and after about 5 minutes noticed something burning; I looked under the car and the cat is glowing like a light bulb. It smelled like it was running rich, but this?
Suggestions where to start?

CIS-E or Digifont? CIS-E you need the special CIS fuel pressure guage and a Fluke meter to check inputs and sensors. Digifont is easy, Fluke meter, cheap fuel pressure guage, Check sensors, Pin check the ecm inputs. Robert Bently Publishing sells the Factory Repair Manual for both systems on one cd rom. It should be resistance in the temp sensor section of the system, excessive fuel pressure, unmetered fuel leaking into system, bad injector(s), open short in harness. CIS could be a bad injector, Look in the fuel tank and check for rust. Pulling the plugs should reveal if you just have on bad injector.
