I have just removed my 1600sp engine from my car, due to faulty crankshaft oil seal, to install a 3.88:1 Ring & Pinion Transaxle, and to upgrade my single port motor to dual port and maybe other things. I was just wondering if i would have a better time with something like say, a 1776 or bigger and a 3.88 R&P Transaxle, or if a 1600dp "souped-up" would suffice. When i say souped up i was thinking of maybe a coutnerweighted crank, lightened flywheel, bigger valve heads, and maybe 1641 cylinders and jugs, external oil cooler, and dual weber ICT's.

Ill have to see what the inside of my case reveals before i really know what ill be buying, because i might just stay with a 1600dp stocker...

Any help greatly appreciated.

slip in p/C's are crap. Don't believe the hype! A 1776 would be better but there are things you can do to your SP to pep it up: Mild port job, solid shafts with 1.25 rockers, header/quiet pack, lightened flywheel, dual carbs and a bosch 010 dist.

doesnt an 010 dizzy not retard the number 3 cylinder, leading to problems for that cylinder? or was i misinformed?

I think that's a 050. an 010 is a 50's carb.
