| Please help me, I'm new at this. I'm pretty sure my bus is running rich. Can someone please tell me where to find the mixture adjusting screws on my Kadrons. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just don't want to start turning screws. Does anyone know where I can get a exploded view of these carbs?? |

| im not sure where you can find an exploded view but i do know what you can do with your mixture screws! it will only control idle mixture but it will help.. turn one carb screw at a time... turn one of the mixture screws clockwise 1/4 turn each time untill the car starts to die....then from that spot turn counter clockwise 1/4 turn (slowly)and you will hear the idle go back up each time (very very little)so you have to really listen for it... untill the idle stops going up then go back clockwise 1/4 turn and thats where they should be!... not to hard to do... but if it still runs rich after that you need new main jets... if your carbs are the same as mine (kadron 40mm dual carbs) then they need 130 main jets... and if you cant find any or the VW stores say you can by them... bullsh%^ go to any local motorcycle parts stores and ask for makuni main jets (not hexagon) you want the big rounds! ok have some fun with those carbs!\ |

You do most of your driving on your idle jets so if you are rich, you may need to put in smaller ones. These jets are located on the side of the carbs. They are brass and have a hex head on them. An 8mm wrench will get it. The passenger side one is easy to get too but the driver's is more tricky because of the fan shroud. You shouldn't have to remove the carbs to change them out.
Stock idle jets are 55 and stock main jets are 130. The main jets are located in the float bowl, one in each carb. The numbers will be stamped on the jets so it should be easy to tell what you have when removed.
The mixture screw on the passenger side should have a long end do you can hand turn it. the drivers side just has a screw that you can't see. You have to feel for it with a long screw driver.
If you only think you are rich, pull a spark plug out and check it's color. If it's too rich, it will black and sooty. If it's too lean, it will appear gray or white. Chocolate brown is where you want it. Just remember though, it's always better to be too rich then lean.
Good luck.
