Unless you do a lot of home work I would leave the ports alone. VW Run better with the valves sunk in the heads unlike Ford & Chevy. Do not match the port to the ex. Vic.

I just ported and polished a set of heads myself, and managed to put a hole in my intake port. This was all done with the help of a guy who has been doing this for a very long time. So unless you have access to someone who can fix your first set a couple of times, it could be cheaper to pay someone to do it, if anything were to go wrong

I would practice on a spare set of heads if you decide to do it yourself. Here is a good reference source: http://www.acvw.com/article.asp?DetailID=49
