hey guys, i'm looking to build a 19sumthin' cc size engine for my daily driver. I've never built a type 1 engine before and was wondering whats a good set up for one. also if there are any good websites out there about building an engine, i'd love to see them!

Tom Wilson's book "How to Rebuild Your Aircooled Volkswagen Engine" is a good book, but it maily deals with stock engines for all types. How to Hot Rod your Volkswagen engine might be a good choice for your bigger motor too, i get my books from amazon.com.

Peace

Oval's right - get yourself a good book on how to rebuild an engine. No matter what you build, it all goes together the same way ..... well almost. Find a book that has all the clearances, wear limits, assembly procedures, etc. Start off with that and then go from there. Larger engine are more work than a 1600. Once you start grinding on the case, rods, crank, etc. That's when it gets frustrating. Then when the case is together you have to set the compression, check valve clearances, rocker arm geometry and more. Usually the larger the engine is the harder it is to assemble. I suggest starting with a 1915, 69 mm counterweighted crank. 94 mm pistons. With this you really won't have to worry about most of the above stuff - you probably won't even have to grind the case at all, or have to get pushrods cut. It's totally easier than building a 2275
