does anyone have any info/advise that can help.
i was entertainning the idea of putting a type 4 into a notch and i was looking for some info on this...pros/cons on the type 4 power in a notch. cost verses building a solid type 3 motor. i have read a few articles on the type 4 but i still cant tell if a type 4 (~150-180+ hp) will be able to eat up some of the hondas (~180hp )here locally.
i know that the price maybe a bit more to build a type 4 and i read that its not too difficult to get it in a notch. just wondering what some you guys think of this???

I put a '74 1800 type 4 in my squareback. The most difficult part was building a rear engine carrier. And that wasn't too tough. Type 4 motors are pretty burly but pricey. You can get more power from your type 3 engine for less money, but if you got the cash to spare, the type 4 is very durable. When I was looking to do mine, I did a bunch a research and I found that it was about a 50/50 split on what peoples opinions were. I think I would consider value of the car, after all, it is a notch. If you are lokking for 150-180 hp in a type 4, better get your wallet out.

sivart, thanks for the info but what difference did you see with that motor in the square? let me say that this notch has a 1776 in it already. i was looking for something with more power/torque as well as cooling better. all these things are supposely what comes with a type 4? also what did you end up spending on the cmotor that you did and would you do it again? bye the way this notch is not totally original and i would not cut oit up of anything. i would keep it so i can change back if id like.

Well, to be honest, I was a little dissapointed with the performance. It does run really well and is quite strong but... I can waste a 1600 DP easily but beyond that I don't know. The car's engine was hamburger when I got it and I put the T4 in so I don't have any way to compare the two. I know I spent at least double on everything, some times more. If I had to do it again on the same budget, I probably wouldn't. But that's just me. The T4 engineis a great engine. The blocks never need align-bored, they have a built in oil filter and sump and they are heavy duty. I have seen some that really haul ass but I don't have that kind of money. One problem I did have was trying to install a sett of kadrons. I had to find T4 intake manifolds (shortones),modify the linkage and air cleaners and the lid still wouldn't close over the engine. I had to do a little modifying but it was a $300 car when I started. Good luck

if you used a 2 liter base with a cam and dual dells or webers it would be a noticable gain in performance and reliability. Almost like a factory Hi Perf Notch. If you want on the edge ragged performance go with the T1 base, the T4 is all about reliability and good street power

For heads check out headflow masters, he knows his type 4 stuff

or add a turbo to you current 1776, that would be a great way to add Power to the notch
