I used to do all my own work and maitnence myself in my past vehicles, but now i am living in mexico and driving a 71 thing. here since the beetle is still bieng produced(at least for half a month more) i get my service done cheaply at the dealership since they do a great job. i am enjoying it till i return to the states and get to do it on my own again, i will normally do anything besides transaxel work.

Where do you live? I think lots of people here can recommend good VW mechanics if you want to pay for it.

Enjoy it while you can in Mexico at the dealerships for Maintenance. In the states they ain't cheap, right fellas? I wouldn't even consider taking my Ghia Vert to a Dealership for Maintenance in the States, that is, right fellas?

Maintenence at a dealer? Ever try just getting a part from them? They look at you like your nuts! I needed the brake line grommets in the master cylinder the ones that the brake lines coming from the resevoir connect to. Fed up with crappy aftermarket ones that kept leaking, I went to the dealer. I even had the part number, and was told 'we might be able to get it, but old beetle parts arent in the computer system'. The guy took my part number and said he will see what he can do. Its been 6 months now, I am sure he is still trying!! It should be noted, this was a Dodge/VW dealership and on the way out, they tried to sell me a Dodge! I found OG grommets at Pomona a couple of months ago, and cleaned the guy out of every one he had.

just here in mexico guys...a dealer would never touch my car in the states.. i know plenty of good mechanics its just kinda fun to get dealer authorized service every once in a while since i am here. Normally i prefer the run down vw mechanic with an entire junk yard in front...i knew a great one in shreveport louisiana bak when i had my super.
