Here's a few pics of some of my family's Kombi's over the years that were set up to go offroad properly. A lot of beach work that often included towing 4WD that were hopelessly stuck out of tracks!!
Cousins 63 Panel. All bay window suspension and a 2.0L wedged in the back with renault 5 speed transmission. 235/75/15" BFG's on front and 12.5"/35"/15" BFG's on the rear. this thing is unstoppable!!
One of the first Kombi's my uncle lifted.lightly modified 2.0L with 1600 box. 215/75/15 on front & 31"/10"/15" BFG's on the rear.
2465ccType 4 with lots of grunt!!1600 box with modified internals 235/75/15 on front with 12.5"/35"/15" BFG's on the rear.
Good mates bus with 235/75/15 on front with 12.5"/33"/15" BFG's on the rear. Near stock 2.0L engine with 1600 box.
this is the same car now....
My uncle's ute. mild 2.0L with 1600 modified box with custom made IRS reduction box set up. Car weighs just over 2.0 tonne empty. Lots of extra stuff including 400kg's of armour plate over top of engine bay for better traction. 31"/11"/15" BFG's on front and 12.5"/35"/15" BFG's on the rear. The ultimate workhorse that not only does it with ease on the beach but also tows formula vee race cars all over Australia.

I see the big boys have come out to play and claim responsibility for thier actions!
very sweet, always been jealous. I need a lower geared trans and a set of 31s, 35s would be sweet tho  |

Yesterday near Lake Lopez, California.
The bus did better than the 4x4 Bronco we were following.
And the drive certainly paid off!
(77 fuel injected w/stock ride height and normal passenger tires) |

I swear these things secretly long to be driven in adverse conditions. Mine will crawl up old forest service roads all day long, and it handles great in the snow. |

two for now, a couple more and a sweet video on the way. here you can see me backing up to a 20 foot drop to do a 3 point turn, really damn hard when you just blew up reverse.
that mud was a man eater, the ground was level when i drove in, but the whole port side of the trail was a slush hole, not obvious till you drove or walked in it. can't wait till I have a locker. I could move decently, once I unstuck myself from where I stopped the first time, but had to rev it more than I would like and it was completly impossible to jump out of them ruts. |

videos from the same trip, the three point turn was a tad hard w/ reverse mostly absent at that point. We decided to film it cause I wasn't convinced my bumper would clear that edge. video sure makes everything look milder. she's a happy bus when she's dirty |

Dang LOL! Looks like a guy has to drive to Tierra del Fuego and back to get some respect. Better check and see if I can get a kitchen pass. |
