I'm building a SP 1776 and intending on using stock carburation. I've been advised that I should use a stock cam instead of the engle 100. Which is a bummer because I already have a W-100! I'm looking for a torquey, reliable motor that gets good mileage.
Anyone have experience with the w-100 in that config? I've searched the forum and found discussions on SP 1600s, SP dual carb 1776s, and DP 1776s with the w-100 showing good results. thx

Not in that config, but a 1641 dual port, with a single IDF, it was a good cam, but not too wild. It kicked good with a single idf when it switched to the main jets though, not tire squealing, but better than the worn out one before, that one had a counterweighted crank, too.

I'm no expert but from what I've read an Engle 100 cam is perfect for a Bus with a 1776. My 1776 long block came with a 110 cam which is a bit much. I am running a stock carb.

IMHO 276 is more duration than I would want for street use in a bus. This is not a bug forum with a light car and high compression You will be pushing a 4,000 pound bus. I would have stayed between 262 and 272. The Webcam 86 grind is 270 duration and probably more applicable in a bus. Stock is probably down around 250 as that is what F-Vee uses. Will you regret using the W-100 since you already own it, probably not. Just watch what valve springs you use on it to be sure they are in a range your rocker arms and pushrods support.

I don't have experience with a W-100'd SP or 1776.
However it is really a nice bus cam with a 1600 single carbed or small dual carbed DP. Very mild and a more pleasant and healthier bottom end. Very good emissions with a single carb. No concerns with stock valve train components. Unlike a W-110 it just makes a healthier happier stockish engine in the normal easy driving range RPM. With the availability of the Engle W-100 I'd never go stock cam again.
For good life use good lifters. I prefer reground and parkerized stock German. And balance the engine including rods and pistons.
