Hey I am going to get a 65 bug with out an engine. I will be driving this bug every day or almost every day. I want to leave any of those import cars in the dust with no prob. I want it to be semi reliable I am not sure what the budget is like. I will know in a few days. I was thinking about buying a stock 1600 and going form there at least I would have something to drive. So could I go with 94mm pistons and cylinders with out doing anything to the case. If not what is the biggest I can go. I dont care about beating vipers anf stuff like that just anything with a 4 or 6 cyl and some V8's well any help would be great. Oh and I would be going dual carb setup. Well thank you again.

First you need to see what kind of case you have. I would not build any 'performance' motor without a dual-relief case. If you want to leave all 4-cyls 'in the dust'- you will not have very good luck- unless you're racing all Yugos Geos and diesels. Don't get me wrong, with a cam, dual 40s, ratio rockers, and good exhaust- You'll be able to spin the wheels, even chirp them in 2nd... but you will not be a boy racer.

Any larger pistons and cylinders you use should require case machining. Read that carefully- there are p&c you can buy that don't require machining- but you should never use them if you want reliability.

With all that said, it comes down to the same thing- It depends on how much money you've got to spend on what you will be able to get. Don't get the biggest you can afford- get the biggest you can afford once you've figured in reliability.
