| I'd like to replace it with a good higher performance SINGLE carb. What should I get and how much would I be spending. I don't want something that will totally chomp on the gas, either. |

| I don't think that there is any such thing as a good higher performance single carb. I would recommend dual Solex Kadrons...I ran them in my '69 Westy for nine years before selling the vehicle last year. They are inexpensive and actually get better mileage than the stock carb on the highway, albeit slightly less mileage in city driving. They also require almost no tinkering...ie. no sychronizing like the Dell'Orto or Webers do...other than making sure the linkage is opening both carbs evenly. I've got a new set of the EMPI Solex (Kadrons) on my Beetle engine and they seem almost the same as the old Kadrons. |

I would second the Dual carb for better millage on the 71. The Solex ICXBE carbs als work great. We had them on an 1835cc 71 Bus. The only single carb I would recomend would be the Weber Progressive. Vic "Parts Book" Schematics and VW part numbers. -> www.1800vw.com

Thanks. What can you tell me about the Weber Progressive? How much should I expect to pay? I do not care about great performance, only slightly better than stock. Plus I have the 34 PICT-3 carb and the 009 and there is a flat spot.
Thanks again. |
