| i have a 74 bug with a 1600 dp all stock except bugpack headers and muffler. i've had it for a couple months and never had any problems with it until a week ago when i was on the highway and i started to lose power. i couldn't go over like 60, i drove for a little while then pulled over into a rest stop. when i was slowing down i got the oil light for a couple seconds but then it went out. when i opened the deck lid there was oil all over and it was really hot. i let it cool for awhile then put more oil in and drove home real slow. ever since then i get oil in the engine bay when i drive, i'm pretty sure its coming from the oil filler. i still have a loss of power but its only noticable at higer speeds. i also have a oil leak that appears to be coming for the #3 push rod tubes and the #3 spark plug looks like its burning oil. i haven't checked the other plugs yet but i'm doing it tomorrow. somebody told me it could be a bad piston ring but i don't understand cause the engine was rebuilt like 5000 miles ago, i'm going to call the guy who did the work and see what he says. any ideas would be a great help cause i don't have a clue and this is my daily driver so i need to get this fixed. thanks guys |

| sounds to me like you overheated it. It works fine untill you get it hot again? not good |

| if the timing is ok check the manifolds and the manifold boot clamps make sure not ripped or loose air leaks will run extremly hot. |
