2nd photo at the very top: "Hey, where'd Thorndyke go?" (from the original "Love Bug" movie").
-Beetle has a nice stance.
-Careful with those outer mirrors- they look to be genuine Vitaloni "Baby Tornados" which are not easily found new anymore; found a site that offers them for about $85 apiece now! I had 2 on my '77 Beetle for years, but they broke off their mounting bases. I painted mine in body color which made them look really good.
-The gasket you have on your engine's generator stand is really for the oil pump! The one that should go there has straight edges on the inside and out. It's easy to pick the wrong gasket out of the engine gasket kit.
-POR-15 black rust paint really does stick to everything! Good that you're wearing gloves. Interior chassis looks marvellous after its treatment.
- '69 is also one of my favorite years for a "project Beetle"; I had one too that was alot rougher than yours; based on a parts car that I bought cheap but got it roadworthy and registered. I sold it about 3 years ago and it now lives in NJ.
Please keep us updated on the project; it looks like a really solid car to begin with so that you are well ahead of many of us that start with rustier cars. Wishing you lots of fun and continued encouragement! |

I know a 13 year old girl (my daughter)..... is restoring her '71 Vert.
Hey 69german, you got a girlfriend? I think I _might_ actually approve of her dating a fellow "bug-kid" (Don't take offense at the "kid" part.)
Of course she's not allowed to date until she's 16, so you'd need to hang out for 2 and a half years...... |

alright these pics are from a cupple of days ago so i will post what i did today later. As much fun i have had with my bug so far i might just take the body off the pan and replace the 12 dollar metal strips under the door section, BUT i need imput on that. Also can anyone tell me about the adjustable beam i no how to youse it i just dont no if it is a good one. I am suprized on the value of the mirrors on my bug I just dont think they are the same ones that are 80 dollars.

This is one of the only rust spots left on the bug. witch i dont kno much on what you have to do to replace them but i think they are only like 12 bucks fro MID.

If the mirrors really are those Vitalonis; they cost only about $25 about 10 yrs ago...
If the aircraft paint is called "Imron", it is extremely durable but you MUST use advanced air respirators to breath due to it containing isocyanates which are aggressive to human lungs. Possibly also use a full body suit to keep the overspray off your skin.
That front beam uses the "Avis"-style adapters; seems to be the best current design. Named after the guy who devised them about 20 yrs ago named Gary Avise.
Kadrons will work well on a stock, or near-stock 1600 engine. I realize you have lots of other work ahead of you before you attempt to finish and install them, but there are some tips to make sure they run well when you first start them. Post back here or in the "performance engine" forum once you get to that point so we can help you. |

I will take pictures of the mirrors up close, maybe they are why i paid 1500 dollars for this bug even tho the owner was clueless. Also i am in the stage of learning welding tecneics,( i would of melted holes in thin metal). With the paint i think they might of changed it a little ing the past years but i will be suiting up for paint in future. The engine on the car in one of the pics was a piece, one of the cylenders were just in pieces all over and lots of the rings were broke. Another big project for me will be taking out the tranny and puting a new gasket kit on it. and also fixing the rust holes on the side you seen. sandsquid that is awsome your daghter is working on a vw to, the most work from a girl my age that i have seen is her saying it is cute. thanks for the help and imput i am learning things about my bug i didnt kno withc helps.
That is my moms bug durring engine removal/swap. |

| Nice job! Looking good. Try some zolotone on the front and rear apron areas that didn't get painted body color. That's an old-school Cal-Look trick and will clean it up. |

That is a very nice little car and it looks like you are doing everything right the first time. A lot of older people could learn a thing from you.
I know you're 14, but this aint MySpace and I'm not an old fart. But "poot" is nowhere close to the same thing as "put." |

he just gave a compliment and an insult in the same post.
there are a couple different reasons he said poot rather than put. spelling error, different slang that your used to. |

i give you huge props on getting that far in resto on your own. im 16 and have a '72 baja champ se that just needs some minor things done. its gonna take me a lot longer though since i work a lot and have to drive it. yur lucky that you've got it 2 years early so you have the time to work on it without needing it for transport.
i wish i had a garage like that too. keep building that bug. i know that having my bug parked at my high school has gotten a ton of people into bugs and there could be 5+ next semester in the parking lot. gotta spread the bug "bug". haha |

Me and my dad just put putty on welded area to smooth out witch i will sand next. I dont kno why it looks green in first picture. The engine on the floor came out of my bug witch i might slowly soop-up durring high school.
