I posted about not getting into gear. 1st, 3rd, 5th and reverse were gone. Just had 2nd and 4th.
So I fill it up with gear oil and YAHOOOO!! All gears work. Everything was there and smooth. Even went back to the transmission guy to say "Look! I fixed it!". That was the undoing. As soon as I left his shop, made it to 4th gear and that was all she wrote. I am in 4th and remain in 4th. The gear shift lever now spins in place. Doesn't even try to engage in anything.
The clutch is still functioning it seems but will need to get underneath and see if somethings slipped.
So is it really a new transmission I need now? Did something just work its way loose?
I was so happy it was working this morning. Now... ugh. :(
Whaddya think? |

Ok, I'm a dope. The linkage from the shift knob rod thingy came off its connecter. So, I put it back in - bolted it down tight. It shifts in all 5 gears again.
BUT
And there's always that "but" - You know how you have to push down on the shift lever and bring it left and up for reverse? Now I have to push the shift lever down and way left and up for 1st and way left for 2nd.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUGH!!
obviously I don't know what the heck I'm doing. Guess I need to crawl in there and adjust things when I know its in neutral and make sure everything is where it's supposed to be.
*sigh*
No wonder repair places charge $75 minumum per hour. This is a pain in the rear. (then again, they know what they're doing and could have it done in 10 minutes.) |

Got under there again with the car in neutral. Disconnected the rod and reconnected wondering just where it was that I went wrong the first time.
I still can't figure it out. I see in the middle of the car where the shift lever comes down to put it into reverse. That all functions and is tight. I see where the rod goes to the connecters for the transmission. I tightened it. Went through all the gears, shifts through all but I still need to push the gear shift down and way left to get it into first or second.
And... to add - while driving in second away from a light, I can nudge the gear shift lever to the right in its "proper position" and its fine there but if I were to stop and have to shift to 1st or 2nd, again I'd have to push the lever down and eeek it into gear.
I don't get it. What did I do wrong or was it me? Is there a trick to this somewhere? |
