Anybody interested in a buggy run to Reno for Hot August nights? It runs August 5-12 this year. I think it would be cool to get a pack of buggies to take the strip cruise on the night of the 11th. This event is the biggest classic car show this side of the Rockies. If interested, you can even enter your buggy in one of the car shows. A few people have shown interest, so please let me know if you want to join in. Also, the Reno PD looks the other way and lets non street legal cars do the strip cruise at night as long as you do not get carried away. Yes, that means if you can shoot flames it is ok. But wheelies and burn outs are frowned upon. (but there is plenty of desert that we can get together in and do that stuff if interested) Please let me know. Rick

Rick, the guys from Sierra Buggies in Reno are having a pot luck / show and shine on August 7th at the local VW shop Fibercraft. If you are interested you can go to fibercraft's web site and I believe there is a description and a few pics from last year. I am from Carson City so I will be attending the show. Unfortunately I sold my buggy and I am now driving a 64 Notchback.

As far as cruising, the Hot August Nights people won't let just anyone into the cruise areas. They are letting the locals and anyone else who wants to cruise Victorian Square on Monday and Tuesday night but I don't know of any other areas they let just anyone cruise. Unfortunately you have to be driving a registered vehicle.

Hope you get some people to come with you to Reno!

Good Luck, Rand

As far as I could see, I had the only buggy in Reno. 20,000 cars entered in events and saw no other buggies. Lots of Mopars, Chevelles, Mustangs. A couple buses and bugs, even a Thing, but saw no other buggies. And Nevada Notch was mistaken, the cruise was on heavy Saturday night. LOTS of law enforcement trying to keep it low key, but flames and burnt rubber were in the air. Tension was high for dragging, and people were having a heck of a time holding back. Fortunately, the drag strip was open to help release some HP and testosterone and those interested in "testing" their creations had a legal avenue to do so. Next year I am entering the competitions and hope to get some competition from some other buggies. Till next year..........

Like Rand mentioned, the guys at Fibercraft have potluck and join the cruise with a large number of dune buggies and bugs, at Hot August Nights every year. Looks like they had a good turn out again this year.

Too bad you didn't make it out to the Reno-Fernley strip Friday or Saturday. Mine (Manx clone) was the ONLY VW racing at the strip Friday nite & one of three VW's racing Sat nite. Between the three of us we showed tail lights to mopars, chevys, pontiacs, fords & a bunch of rice-burners of various makes............. Hope you make it next year

Hey sturgeongeneral, were you a registered participant? In years past they would not let anyone who was not registered cruise on wed thru sat in the downtown, casino or victorian square areas. Were they letting just anyone with a vintage car cruise?
