| Anyone interested in a day run up in the San Gabriel Mountains next weekend? We have a few bajas, and a Jeep or two already. We will be starting off Angeles Crest Highway north of La Canada/Flintridge, and taking the Rincon Short Cut over to Highway 39 at Azusa Canyon. A short jump on the pavement to another trail that leads from there over to Glendora Ridge near the 210/57 freeway junction. We are anticipating this to be an all day run, with a lunch stop somewhere in between. Most of the trails are fire access roads, so they are not serious or difficult. I will post when and where we will be meeting up in a few days... time to get the cars dirty without the extreme desert heat! |

Too bad my baja is not ready, Im just a few miles away from Azusa canyon.
If your baja is registered as a green sticker you could go into the OHV area at the junction of the east and west forks. |

| Just got off the phone wih El Vocho, and apparently the forest service has closed down all fire roads with the exception of the Rincon Short Cut. We are still going, but it turns out it will be a shorter day. We are considering turning back around at Azusa Canyon and taking Rincon back to Angeles Crest Highway instead. |

We had a great time today! Too bad we could get a few more baja's to join us.
Here come the pics....
Arriving in Azusa Canyon - from left to right - Skid, El Vocho, Auslander, and the GW.
Cruising up the trail...
Some of the scenery shots...
Beautiful shaded trails along the way...
Our first casualty on the trip - Auslander's head light ring goes missing and the headlight popped out.
At least you could tell he was still having fun!
A few zip ties, fix a small fuel leak, and we were ready to go again.
You can see some of the antennae on Mount Wilson in the background.
Not to be outdone, or upstaged, El Vocho decides to take out one of his headlights on my rear bumper... I had to lock up and almost slid off the edge on a turn that surprised me. I stopped with the right front wheel almost off the edge of the road, and Diane couldn't stop in time sliding into the back of me. Just a little love tap, thankfully, or they would have shoved us over the edge!
Well, Auslander would have none of that, so he decided to lose the other head light... (it turned out to be a very bad day for head lights, let me tell you!)
After lunch at Newcomb's Ranch Inn on Angeles Crest Highway, El Vocho and I decided to go back down Rincon Short Cut the other way. The Jeep and Auslander decided it would be better for them to take the highway down. We made one stop on the trip back down Rincon, and made pretty good time. We all had a great time! Next time we need a few more to come join us!
A few last scenery shots on the way back...
And yes, the Jeep couldn't keep up with the VW's... |
