Nope... need to show the rangers your license and registration to get the combination to the gate.

Can you drive the Rincon Trail with a green sticker only car? Mine is not street legal.
Steve

Maybe, I've seen lots of people with their ATCs & bikes on the trail. Not sure if they are on it illegally, I've seen rangers on it and they didn't seem to care.

El Vocho wrote: Randreas, The river in this picture looks like the Colorado compared to what it looked like last weekend. It seemed like I they blocked off most of the stream that did exist with red ribbons for some reason, I guess they only what you to cross the stream in designated areas only. :(

Yeah this pic was back in March or May... When I went last it was a complete dust bowl. They actually opened more area because the area where it empties into the lake or reservoir was so low.

The red flags are there all the time. They are trying to protect some little fish thats endangered. They want people to cross the river in narrow parts and at 90 degrees. If they catch you driving down the river they will ticket you etc...

I am just minutes away from azusa's highway 39. Besides for the ATV area, where supposedly you need a vehicle that is 4x4. Is there any place I can run my baja. Anyone familiar with the area? Let me know, Thanks

Rincon shortcut road is the only other place in that area. Did you read page one of this tread?

I'm in Azusa... If you want to run the Rincon trail let me know and I'll join you if you want. Maybe some more people from around here would want to get together and make a day trip starting from this end of the trail.

That would be great. I plan on having my baja running in the next few weeks. It is street legal, but not green sticker. Im looking for anyone that would like to show me around the trails.

auslander Sun Aug 19, 2007 2:37 pm

Im looking forward to run through it and back without loosing any parts, lol

El Vocho Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:59 am

What about doing this trail at night. It would be fun to do it for Holloween, anyone interested?

Skidmark Mon Aug 20, 2007 4:40 pm

Should I remind you of the corner I missed, and almost went over the side? BEFORE your girlfriend rear ended me...

I think that trail would be ALOT slower at night, and very dangerous. Too many looooong drop offs... Call me old, chicken, pussy, whatever you want. That trail is great in the daylight. Not doing it at night. Thanks.

wayneweir wrote: The ORV area also requires 4WD on all vehicles licensed for the road. Any 2WD vehicle can run there just as long as they have a green sticker

Here is the state web site that specifically says proper registration. Just scroll down to where it says OHV registration and read it. I just print this out and high light the OHV registration and show it to the A$$ holes at the front gate and they dont know what to say but let you in. Hope this helps.
It is not necessary to register a vehicle for both on and off highway us. Valid on highway registration allows the vehicle to be opperated on and off the highway.

Well, I wouldnt go as far as to say you were rear ended, how about a love tap. Thats all it was.

I just think that trail would be really spooky at night, specially where those trees hang over the road.

I went up to Azusa canyon today and decided to cruise a bit of the trail, but when I went to get the combo to the gate the ranger told me it was closed to the public for about 6 months.

He said Edison is working on the roads to their towers and people were offroading on them so they closed down the whole trail... Knowing the way things work up there (i.e. Hwy 39 to Crystal Lake), 6 months might end up being 6 years.

Skidmark Sun May 18, 2008 10:21 am

I called the ranger station this morning to check their recording. Ricon is closed "until further notice". The Azusa Canyon off road area is also closed, but due to high water. No word on when either one will be open again. I was hoping that 6 month estimate was going to be true. Who knows... :(

Is that the East Fork bridge? When I was in High School (91-95) we used to climb out on it, and jump down into the river. The water level was obviously WAY higher then, and it was well below normal at the time.

Nicksan Wed Jan 06, 2010 7:49 pm

When I was a kid, I also remember the water was always all the way up to the bridge pylons and I would go fishing at several spots along the upper reservoir close to the bridge, at that time the water was hundred of feet deep. When I go up there now, Its very strange seeing the upper resevoir with almost no water.
