I got this car about a month ago now. Its a 1971 Standard that I have been working hard on and spending $$ on. Got it for $1000, has a 1600DP and will be a nice car to drive on nicer days.. but will probably be driven rain or shine.
I have a blog going on my website that is updated every day that I work on it: http://www.ridespace.net/rides/10477/blog/
Picture Albums
The First Day: http://www.ridespace.net/rides/10477/albums/12234/
The Second Day: http://www.ridespace.net/rides/10477/albums/12250/
The Body Off Stuff: http://www.ridespace.net/rides/10477/albums/12276/
Here are some BugSelecta renderings of how I would like it to turn out:
I've got some plans for it. It has an adjustable beam that I am building with Ghia disk brakes in the front.. all new brake lines and master cylinder. The 1600 engine hopefully will run without much work. I want to drive the car for a few months before Winter.. then overhaul the engine. Going to have dual carbs, and already has a Bugpack or something 3 bolt merged header.
Already have welded in some repair panels to the pan, half floor, seat tracks.. etc. Been doing rust removal and painting with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator and Chassis Black.. new shocks, tie rods, steering damper, ball joints.. etc.
Here is my RideSpace page for the car: http://www.ridespace.net/rides/10477/
Send me some positive comments and ratings.. the car is a little low on that site. |

I should also mention that the car will be repainted. I'd like to keep the faded green color because it has really grown on me..
It will probably be something like this green:

Some stuff I got done today:
Seat track installed, and painted everything.
Torsion leaves installed. This was rediculous.. took about 3 hours to do this lower one. Ended up taking 5 minutes on the last try ofcourse.
Installed the adjusters.. gonna put a washer on there as well. Maybe lock washer.
The rest of the pan coated in Rust Encapsulator.. almost ready for Chassis Black.
Gonna have a big day tomorrow. Going to have to find a shop to press out the ONE remaining ball joint.. and press in the 4 new ones. Then.. I should recieve a shipment from CIP1 that has my rotor dust shields and some seals.. I can fully assemble the front end! |

Ghia Spindles and dust shields.
Finding the right sized bolts for those sucks. I'm gonna go with an american bolt either tapped or with a nut on the end.
Newly installed ball joints! We used the Autozone C-Clamp to install.. no problem!
Thar be the disk brakes. Just sitting on there.. still need to do the bearings.
Its starting to look like a car chassis.

| We are hoping the neighbors and police can't see it either. We're still waiting on our abandoned vehicle citation from the city. We know our neighbor across the street was conspiring about it. |

More welding on the underside is going on, and we are removing all of the undercoating and paint. It should all be clean metal once the wire wheeling is done some time tomorrow. Gonna lay down a layer of rust encapsulator hopefully tomorrow aswell.

| Resto-custom bugs are cool, really cool. And your future resto-custom will surely catch attention. I hade a resto-custom 1968 beetle (although it has the '67 look) when I was in college, with two-tone black and yellow color. With white side wall, of course. Man that bug was hot. But, I sold that bug already. |

Thanks. I just want to do a Bug the way I want to do it.
I think it will look very tasteful, and hopefully won't get anyone's panties in a bunch. I mean.. its not a Split or Oval or anything. |

| The only way to do it is the way you want to do it.........There is plenty of cookie-cutter all built the same but in a different color cars around.. Build it the way you like it and then drive the wheels off of it :D |

Found some bad spots on the underside of the pan near the frame head.
So a 16 gauge plate was cut out and formed.
Then welded.
Otherwise the pan is cleaning up and almost ready for painting.

I'm 20, and don't work during the week.
I need it to be done by the time I go back to school because I don't want it conflicting with class. (and by done I mean driveable). |

A big box arrived today from FedEx with the deadly "EMPI" logo on the side.
Inside were Brosol / Solex 40mm dual carbs. I hope I am not going to have problems with them. They were used and came with tons of different jets. What kinds of troubles should I expect? Hopefully they are just distrubuted by Empi and not crap. The intakes are Empi though...
