Looking at the date on the auction...more than likely they are on a new owners car !!
the driver of the car surely has a huge smile on their face!! :D
Could these be the ones that sufaced at the Texas Motorplex many years ago??
the price was $1,000.00 then
Three bar spinners??...No Hex Caps?? Odd Photo Shop looking photo of one of the wheels?? payment desription sounds strange??
Real Aution??
Awesome find...When did you get the link Greg?? |

I had a friend in AZ tell me about them.
From what I heard there was deal outside of ebay.
The high bidder and 1 or 2 other people went at it after the auction ended.
The auction "seller" was not the owner of the wheels. He was elling them for a friend. The reserve was $4000 |

What's something like that worth?
I know I was offered $5000 2 days after I bought mine and they were used and dirty. |

I fixed your photo Rich...
Are those my Aluminum ones pictured?
I really could use 2 more of those you know.
After seeing these NOS ones, I'm not so sure of the Hex cap theory, although I do like the hex caps more. |

Yes the wheels are very rare.........unbelieveble find in N.O.S condition :D .
mint BRM's $6-7+K.......N.O.S Torq Thrust Wide Fives.....the sky is the limit!!
I have heard rumors of another set was located at the Pomona swap meet by a non Vw wheel seller but I have not seen them....could this be them???
Could this be the set from Texas??
my first set was found on a 1960 Ghia convertable here in Fresno in the early 90's for $1600.00 (including the car) ..........my set had two bar spinners (Knock Offs)....the Cal Look book just hit the shelve's and a couple of cars perked my attention.....both cars had hex caps......three sets in that book.....one had two bar spinners.
Dyno Don had a set with the three bar spinners.....they are in Japan.
My old set has been passed around the world (no center caps)....UK...Central Coast...Florida...Central Coast...So Cal.
the set I bought in Oregon a couple of years ago(Has it been that long??) was a original owner set that was bought new in 1973.
I would say this has to go down in Vw History....N.O.S....unreal!!!
hunting hard for many years....spending loads of "crazy mobey" and "Thee set" pops up on ebay for a $4k reserve
Thank you for fixing my photo Greg....yes two aluminums with one center cap went to you....I hooked Jim Mayo up with two mags to complete his set of four (one is not in photo shoot)
I guess you can sell off your "Used Ones" now, I know of a few people who would love to own them!!!
Enjoy them Greg!! ....you could damn near charge admission to see them!!! |

You just have to be at the right place at the right time.
Now, just for clarification, that NOS set only had a reserve of 4k and they didnt sell? I guess I was still dealing with jet lag on the 15th of June. |

I guess I was too.
I never saw the auction, must have missed an alert too, casue I don't remember getting one.
For a reseve of $4000 I would have had them.
The high bidder only bid $3500 that's why the reserve wasn't meet.
Luckily the seller knew a friend of mine and I was contacted last week.
The high bidder was also in contact with the seller.
There was a one time, make me your best offer type deal, and I made the better offer I guess. I just told him what I would have paid if I saw them on ebay.
I wish I would have saw them, I could have saved some money.
Oh well. |
