Where are they loose? On the trim or on the body?

Are you using the rubber seals as well?

Those "tophats" are crucial, not just for the fit of the trim, but to stop water leaks from rusting out your doors and heater channels!

AND to stop the trim clips from scratching through to bare metal around the holes. Better check when you remove them and touch up the paint as ness.

And on later bugs, with the plastic (not metal) clips, be sure to use the thin rubber gasket under it for the same reason. Many suppiers ell the clips without the rubber deals, and those, too, will leak (though not as drastically as the older metal/tophat setup).

You really want those top hats, or you will end up like the PO of my car. Took off all the trim, painted the car, paid good money for new custom door panels.

Installed the trim without the top hats and didn't put the plastic sheet back on the doors behind the door panels. Now the expensive custom door and quarter panels are water damaged.

Details, details, details.......paying attention to the details is what makes a good job into a great job!

Let me revive this 7yr old thread because I bought the same kit and am having an issue.. I got the rubber top hats installed and the trim clips just don't seem to fit the trim pieces.

They don't seem to shaped right so they don't slide in the trim, and then if you can get them in the trim after manipulating them, they won't stay in the top hats..

Any thoughts?

Any luck with the clips? I also used the rubber top hats and the clips fit to the body securely but the trim seems a little loose. The trim can slide front to back. Any ways hope it can be tweaked..

My rubber "top hats" seem to be too thick..my clips can't be pushed in without bending the trim.

I saw a bug at a show last weekend and his "top hats" seemed to be much more thin, his trim popped off and on like butter :(
