I know that I read a post somewhere that told how to
figure out what year a motor is, but I can't find it.

I need to order some parts, and I don't know what year
my motor is. Nothing major, just a gasket kit, and chrome
valve covers.

Post you engine number here and someone should get back with you with an answer.

O.K. - I found the nubers on the front of the block.
They were on the front, right under the generator
stand. I hope this is the right numbers. I looked in
the idiot manual, and I think its July 1967.

Anyway, the number is - H081818X

Help please!!!!

1968 118 000 001 - 148 000 001 H 1500 cc 53 hp

O.K. - I still don't get it.
Those numbers don't look anything like mine.
Do I have the wrong numbers? Am I looking
in the wrong place?

to make real simple for me. Gotta spell it out
in black and white.

H means it's a 1500cc single-port motor from either a Bug or a Van.

The X on the end usually means it's been a factory reconditioned unit at some time.

There's virtually no difference between any of the 1500 engines so part ordering shouldn't be a problem.

your motor is a 1967/1968/1969 1500cc motor
