As many cars as are out there, it seems that most are missing this item. As all came with a jack, their "mis-placment" over time seems difficult to understand.
I am seeking information on what a correct jack for a July'52 would look like, what is it's length as compared to a later type 2 jack, and most importantly, does anyone have a lead on where I might obtain one?
Thanks, Steve |

To the best of my knowledge, this is the correct jack:

| A "Klettermaxe" jack replaced the Vigot in 19 March 1952. Kletter translates to climber. I believe this is the model that was used most of the fifties and sixties. |

i think the jack will be changed in the middle of 1948 to a square one.
The one you show is for the round jack compartment (like KDF and up to 1948).
Otherwise, the VIGOT is for barndoor, as i know....
The jack for the beetle is stamped Bilstein and not VIGOT. |

The early KDF beetle have also a different jack. I donīt know the english word, in german it calls "Scherenwagenheber". I donīt know when the changed happend on KDF beetle...? |

I was told that one, with the pivoting arm, is for buses. The correct one for the split Beetle is like that but does not have the pivoting arm, rather a fixed one. Like Ev posted above:

This is correct John.
I've spent the last two years looking for a "correct" jack. finally scored one. i'll take some pix and post, better pix, over the weekend.
Plus from what i understand there are two types of this "rigid arm" Vigot jack. a early and late.

There are two versions of the Split (50-52) jack.
Early version - VIGOT/BILSTEIN, 3 prong:
Later version - VIGOT/BILSTEIN, fat base:
The bottom is the same as what is on early bus jacks - left and middle picture:

Jacks through 1955 model year were stored in a bag, often made from upholstery fabric. They were stored in the trunk, alongside the tool kit. |

I once found this one for my early 1949.
I hope it is correct. Well, Iīll use it anyway.
I like the crank with the two transmissions.

Is this the correct handle for this type of jack or is there some other style? If so I can add one more thing to the "need to find" list
Any other sources besides a WTB ad on theSamba? |
