Maybe the nickle was rusting or I saw the copper pitting like you said, but it still looked like crap.

On 5 spokes, Chrome all the way. On hotrods, if you buy the cheaper "cast" alloy wheels they do not polish up like chrome. The more expensive "forged" billet wheels can be polished to a chrome like appearance. I had 5 spokes on my last bug originally and no matter how hard I polished them, I could not get them to shine like I wanted, thats one of the main reasons I sold them.

Assuming quality product. IMO, polished is better. They won't chip like even the best chrome. There is a little more maintenance on the polished, but we should all pamper our babies anyway.

I opted for polished when I bought new wheels; I figured the chances of hydrogen embrittlement in my wheels was one more scary part of my ride I didnm't want to deal with.

I prefer the polished because it give the natural beauty of the fuchs wheels..

on an aluminum rim I prefer polish. but man o man you gotta be a religious zealot maintaining them. I like the feel and look of the smooth raw metal, and after some time with Flitz or Wenol polish they look so great. the chrome looks a bit crass I think. but I sure like the hardness of chrome and it's ability to withstand winter mud puddles.

I think the aluminum looks best waxed but I would like to know if there is clear coat that's decent. powder coat is too hard to remove and re do.

polishing is something you can re do yourself with simple tools like a drill motor and buffs, chrome plating a wheel requires a plating shop and more money, and I don't always trust people with something as precious as a cool wheel.
