View original topic: Wheel adapters 12mm or 14mm

I have a couple split window buses and have replaced the rear with a type 3 setup that is a 4 bolt pattern.

I need to get back to the wide 5 pattern and it looks like the easiest way is buying the adapter. What I don't understand is why does the adapter come with 12mm threads instead of 14mm? Is there a good reason for this? I would think that you would keep the 14mm size since that is what the type 3 hub and the type 2 hub are.

Is there a better way to do this that is relatively inexpensive?

Thanks for any help.

Probably because the wheel adapter customer base is in need of 12mm threads... lots more Beetles, rail buggies, dune buggies (12mm) than Buses(14mm). Plus it's a lot easier to drill out a 12mm hole to 14mm than the other way around

Thanks for the quick answer.

Any better solution besides the adapter. Other than buying a new type 3 repop hub or finding an original hub?

With the current 4-lug Type III setup the wheel adapter route is the only solution I'm aware of to get to wide five.
