I would agree with that. Porsches of the period used a strap. |

| I see the logic but isn't that kind of pointless? Don't most people also keep the lug wrench/tools in the trunk? Maybe it's not meant for theft-deterrent but for securing the tire during upside-down aerial maneuvers? |

i do have the same part as you , and i think it is for keeping the rattle of the wheel away .

It was added in 1947 so the spare could be secured with a lock and chain.

If the front storage area locks, it is not as important to have the bracket.
Could it be a std. vs. dlx kind of item?
