I didn't want to get rid of the camber, have the wheel sit upright and not be able to clear.

I didn't realize you were running 18's. Camber and Vws go together like rice and beans but, I'm thinking of running the rear low without bags. I figured it's gonna be a daily and wanted the tires to last longer by fixing the camber with "stock" width wheels and tires.

Deff. throw up some pix when you're done.
Here's the first mock-up. I did it just to take some measurements. The rim hit the fenderwell lip right square in the middle. After I got the tire mounted up, I figured I needed 1-1/4 to clear the tire on the way up into the fenderwell. Once it's up in there, I'll have plenty of room. I also switched to the single springplates with lower profile heads on the new bolts.
You can't beat a $1500 car and $4000 worth of brakes, wheels, tires and suspension. :D

I also made the lift you see to the left. I takes forever to ratchet up or down but it lets you store your jetskis and trailer above your car.

For a 36 HP ?

Did you made the header yourself ?

I want to make a 36 HP hideaway exhaust with heater boxes. I want a powerful sound, don't care about the 36 horses :D.

Don't go by the yr. of car. Who says he's running a 36'r? I highly doubt he is.

You are right. I didn't do enough research, see he isn't running a 36 HP in the gallery.

Man, you seriously rethink that fuel line placement/construction. That is WAY unsafe in so many ways.

X

Oh do tell......What do YOU recommend????? What's honestly going to hit it??

Just ignore him, At least you used hard lines and put some thought into it instead of 10' of rubber hose from NAPA.

why didnt you just put a new line in the column? it only takes like 10 minutes.... just leave your old one in there

In case you really don't know...

1. Fuel line should never be made of a material that could spark when struck by another material. Is that 316SS certified as a fuel line?
2. I see apx 4 threaded connections(leak points) in the that elbo.
2.1. The elbo...It can be fractured/hung up on with a flying stone/whatever.
3. You ran it INCHES from side impact area with 0 protection.
4. You used conduit hangers to hang fuel lines that are NOT vibration proof.
5. The line is hung exposed on the bottom.

But hey, whatever...I really don't give a shit if you don't.

lets see some more metal fabbing and less flabbing up in this mug.

OK.......here we go.

Do you know of a 316SS certified for 'fuel'?? I've never heard of it.
The elbow won't be fractured. It's forged steel, and pretty damn thick. It ain't gonna crack.
Yeah, it's in the 'impact' zone, but the whole VW IS AN IMPACT ZONE.
They're not conduit hangers. They're tubing clamps specifically for tubing with plastic inserts for vibration dampening.......look closely.
Yeah, it's exposed.........you're quick!

I do this for a living, I'm pretty damn confident on what I do and have done. Do you have any work to back up your mouth, or are you just here to criticize?????? I've kept an eye on all of it. No issues, no nicks, no scrapes, etc... It's perfect. No leaks. There's no other way to route it w/o a certain amount of fittings. I guess I could have not used a bender and used fittings instead, that would have saved me a lot of time, right? I mean, you're the expert here....

That's gonna look hard as hell. Maybe you can "roll" your fenders for that extra bit of clearence.?.

Hotrodvw Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:20 am

What yr car is that??? You could always shorten the axles and tubes.

I know Skim doesn't want arguing in this thread, but I would like to add that Detroit has run fuel line under cars for YEARS, and it was all made of steel. Ask anyone who has worked on a car in the rust belt about a steel fuel line that has disintegrated.

The narrowed arms are going to get me where I need. It only hit before the narrowing.

you guys made my night....

blarneyman Fri Sep 07, 2007 9:42 pm

My squareback has been my first attempt on fabrication so that would make me a rookie.
Disappearing glove box;

big ugly hole for stereo

front clip

fresh air vents

This was the hard one..... chopped and bent rear hatch

this one shows how much I had to remove

seat rails for my racing seats

I have taken a break from the square, so I can do some rust repair on my Ghia

Hotrodvw Sun Sep 09, 2007 8:39 pm

I like the chopped Sq. Back. If I was going to chop a VW, that'd be it..........they need all the help they can get.

No offense intended, just my opinion.

blarneyman Sun Sep 09, 2007 9:08 pm

Here is a side shot of mine. (under construction)
