View original topic: Aug. '69 owner's manual?

Does anyone have an Aug. '68 owner's manual (for the '69 model year)? I notice that the one posted here on TheSamba was printed in Nov. '68.

Why am I asking? The "early" '69 model year Ghia was different from the "later" '69 model year.

Best wishes,
Clive

Hey Clive,
Good luck on finding one. Ive been searching for one a while now. I had an old dealership guy tell me that best he could remember that they used '68 books with a sticker on the inside that said '69. I have yet to see ever see one. But, I'll keep looking.

i looked at my 68"s manual and compared it to the 69 posted on the internet. i only saw about 4 or 5 pages that were not exactly the same. pm me and i will scan and email those different pages to you.

Many thanks for the offer. As a matter of fact, someone posted his '68 manual here on TheSamba just a few days ago. And, of course, you're right: there are only a handful of pages that are different. One difference is that the side heater vent on the '68 is opened and closed on the floor with a slide. In the '69 manual, the same vent is controled with levers on the kickpanels just underneath the dash. Another difference is the convertible top: the '68 manual describes the early '69 top well, but the '69 manual has the side-securing mechanism (which my early '69 top does not have).

Perhaps there never was a manual for early '69 models. I don't know.

Appreciatively,
Clive

I have one printed in 8. 68 for the 69 coupe model. What info do you need?

If anyone has any manuals that are not on the site and can provide scans, feel free to PM or email contact me at any time. Do not respond here as I may not see a response.

I can also scan them myself, if you are willing to loan them out.

I am looking to see if it mentions the plastic window on the convertible OR the glass window.
mine is a early 69 still with plastic window.
I would love to find a manual that says for 69 models on the cover but still mentions the plastic window in the convertible section.

Is that what your book says? Wanna sell it?

No, I've no intention of selling it. I just stumbled upon a numbers matching 69 Ghia and this book verifies the engine is original although it falls out of the numbers listed that were installed in Ghias. In other words, it proves VW's records aren't always 100% correct! See my post about this.....

About the plastic rear window, On page 14 it mentions how to fold the top and protect the plastic window.

When I get a chance, I'll see if I can't scan the book for posting here. In a few days I could scan that page and email it to you if you PM me with your address.

This early 69 owners manual is now scanned and part of the Samba's collection of owners manuals if you want to look at it.
