View original topic: what is it with these shops?

Does anyone have a list of shops or websites that carry Thing parts? I have "the thing shop" in my town and i am tired of going there to buy something and then finding it somewhere else for cheaper. I do not agree with the thought of "Im the only shop in town so pay my prices." We have a few in town and usually its cheaper to mail order. Thanks,Skrzny

And yes its the same quality...

Some parts are pretty specific to the Thing and carried by few.

Others are readily available via Internet mail order.

What stuff are you referring to?

Whenever the parts are the same as a the parts for a beetle you can generally find them online at good prices. But you're quite lucky being so close to The Thing Shop. They offer an invaluable service to us for many items which would be nearly possible to get anywhere else. For many smaller, less specific parts check out cip1.com....I've been very happy with them so far.

And yes its the same quality... Cheaper to mail order, INCLUDING shipping costs???

I find that after adding the shipping costs (and the wait time), it's not worth it on a part I need ASAP.

Again, not interested in the "pay my 30% mark up" deal. Loopers in town is the same way, No thanks. Even after shipping some sites are much cheaper than shops in town.
Items so far
Literature
Tops
Misc parts trim,fasteners,etc.

Hey thanks GSD for answering my question I'll save those listings.

Bite the bullet and turn to the Thing Shop for your convertible top needs. You're not likely to find much better than them.

I wish I had your problem! You get to touch and see a Quality part before you buy it . Keeping in mind you are "finding it there" and the part is often something not many people even stock and now you want it cheap. I dont understand your reasoning.
I do however understand your original question that was answered above.
Being on an island I thought I would let you know how good you have it.
