Hi chaps, last months ultra vw had an article on this car, and it mentioned some special heads that were built by porsche for an attack boat in WW2 which they managed to acquire to build the car back in the 40s. Does anyone have any views on the heads, presumably they are real hens teath items! Any photos? I guess you guys would love to get your hands on them!

This is a link to an exhibition with the cars from Peter max muller, except the black hebmuller from the VAG Museum in Wolfsburg ..this was sold some years ago.( not the black- ivory one)

Here are some pics. The last pictures shows the secound survived PetermaxMüller-car which was driven by Huschke von Hanstein.

Thanks! I didn't have those last 2 pictures, i'm traveling this month to the prototyp museum to make some measurement, as i am maybe planning to build a replica (the body that is, the engine looks like a bit too much work)

You can't know them because they are selfmade ;-) The last picture I got from Prototyp, because in front, there is my own Hebmüller.

The secound Petermax-cax is absolutly ungnown. I was growing 5 years to get the chance to see it. It belongs to a private collection of an old racingdriver, who died 10 years ago. The family is not interested to be a part of the vintage-szene - its just an memorial of the father...

Actually the car has a two-carburator-engine inside, but the original Petermax-engine still exist. Sorry for the bad quality of the following shots.

Petermax Müller was born near Berlin and start his buisness at the Brennabor car factory in Brandenburg. In the 1930s, he sold cars of the Auto-Union. He was also a famous international racing driver. At the end of war, he left Berlin and started his new life in Velpke near Wolfsburg. He was in a good contact to Volkswagen to get the parts. The body of the racing-cars were made by a small bodywork comany im Wolfsburg named Schwon. The Petermax / Petromax (VARTA)-racers were the best cars in its class at the late 1940s. One of the drivers was his friend from good old times Fritz Huschke von Hanstein - he is the guy who growed up Porsche from a small manufatory to lhe world legendary Sportsmark.

In the 1950s, Petermax opend a dealership for Volkswagen and Porsche in Hannover, well known in Hannover area.

In 2002, Petermax died with an age of 90 years. His private car collection which was in display of the Volkswagen Automuseum was sold and I had the luck to buy his Hebmüller Convertible. His VW- and Porscheshops still exist, but they belongs to a consortium of several VW-shops in and ouz Hannover.

Thanks for clarifying the heads! It's been driving me nuts all day trying to picture what they actually look like. Now if there was only a picture of the chambers..........

Those heads are bad ASS. oh man. think about how far ahead of his time homeboy was. dude. This made my month. i LOVE vintage tech. The stuff they did, was so awesome, why arent there any bad ass innovators like that now? people just mod what exists now. :?

I've seen and heard this car run and it's LOUD! It was on display at the Hedingham Castle Porsche meet in England (June 2007)

A friend called Andy Prill (UK 356 Specialist) built the engine, he said the it's turbine smooth and happy to rev.

I've got some photos of the enigine, I'll post them up later.

Not to hijack the thread... but I have a set of wheels like these... drilled out. I was wondering the origin??? My wheels are Lemmerz... dated 1949 and they are 4j by 15. Wide by the late forties standards.... and 15 inch was pretty rare then too. I suppose they are lightened racing wheels...???

They were originally on an original Heb... but the new owner didn't want them and instead installed a set of 16 inch smoothies... So I bought the weird wheels.

anyone ever seen any others like this?

Overrestored, what date is on them? Are the holes punched or drilled. They look cool, would not be hard to drill on a milling machine.

they are dated 1949... I forget what month. The holes were drilled I think... I can see how they spiral into the steel... but there is only about 3/4 of a turn of the spiral to get all the way through the rim... so the jig was under great pressure of some sort.

The 15 inch size is weird for 1949 and the 4 inch width is also odd.

Thanks. So I guess that goes against everything we know about ALL VWs haveing 16's until '52? Drilling those would be easy, might try some.
