Today I traded in one of my cars for a 73 412. It apparantly belonged to a military guy stationed in Germany. He imported it back to the states. It has german plates. Weird it is left hand drive.
The good: front end is solid, decent body, good brakes, nice after market wood steering wheel. The engine looks good. the tranny is ok. Original paint. Working fi system.
The bad: It needs a master clutch.
I have a a manual for the fi system ordered and a 412 repair manaul ordered. |

Cool, that sounds really nice. Generally, only UK, Japan, and former British colonies have right hand drive cars. A 412 from Germany would have been nearly identical to one sold here in '73.

Things are a tad hectic today. One of my girlfriend's freinds passed away early today. I'll post pictures of the 412 as soon as I can. At the moment if I go near any of the cars (except the daily driver that blow a fan belt) I get THE look.

That's too bad. Family and friends come first. Pictures will be welcome any time.

Today I got a chance to take a another quick look at the car. The battery is under the passenger seat instead of the drivers seat. Is this common?

There was a dual battery option: M Code 558 "Second battery with cut-off relay" in which I believe may have been under the passenger seat. On all of mine, the battery is under the driver seat. Maybe check to see if there are/were provisions for a battery under the driver seat also?

My first type 4, a '71 411 wagon, had the battery under the passenger seat too. When I first bought the '73 412, I immediately looked under the passenger seat....and then found it under the driver's.
Odd.....but then again, these cars keep surprising us.
