You can search the old forums for autostick people.
Since they are more complex, and cost more to repair, most people get rid of the autostick eventually. The good news is that you can convert to manual using all stock parts for a reasonble amount of cash when your autostick gives up. Not to worry. |

| The autostick seems to be a particular transmission that not many people care for. They are known to be very problematic and complex. Parts are getting increasingly difficult to attain for them as well. |

| I've been driving it for about 3 years and it seems like the only thing that hasn't given me trouble is the transmition, it's a fun drive but i'm considering selling it before the trannie goes down so that i can focus on my '70 ghia. It's refreshing to know that i can convert the transmition for a resonable price tho. Thanks for the info! |

I'm glad you've had the string of luck with that autostick! If you keep it, you may want to start gathering parts for a manual gearbox conversion. Actually, if you have the room and the means, a whole "donor car" would be sensible, because there are all kinds of little parts you will need, that if you have to buy them at a local boneyard, will nickel and dime you to death. Most non-running beetles of that era can be gotten for as little as a couple hundred dollars. A wise investment. |
