| I did it on my 60, but it sucks. Once you remove the window assembly, and remove the small bolts that hold the frame and regulator together, you can tap the frame off the glass with a rubber mallet. When installing, I suggest to call chucks convertibles and get the pre formed seals. I used WW ones, and had to cut and glue them back together. BIG PITA. Putting it back together is the difficult part. It would help to have a jig, but I used dish soap, rubber hammer, and some wood blocks. There are no real tricks, either way its gonna be hard. I did all 4 and hated it. |

I am pulling the glass out off the frames to have them re-chromed.
I have pulled the frames all out of the car.
There seems to be only one machine screw with a 7 mm nut holding the regulator bar to the frames on the fronts, and 2 on the rears,
Does that sound right?
Before I start tapping with a rubber mallet I wanted to be sure.

To be honest this is a bit of an understatement
I pulled the glass out of the door window frames yesterday and tapping was not going to work.
I took one of those utility knives with the snap off blades and had to cut the "seal" that developed between the glass and the rubber. Easily took 10 minutes of slicing carefully along the glass and the liner.
Then use a block of wood against the frame and a mallet.
They were still pretty stubborn in some areas as the adhesive under the rubber was sticking to the frame and the window was "glued" to the rubber.
anyway, just a heads up |

yeah, if you decide you are going to go at it without doing some thinking and prep work on something that's been in the same place for 50 years, it's gonna be tough.
you can soak it with some WD-40 or the like and it will go much easier for you. warm water might help as well.
i just put the ventwing seals in one of my vehicles and set up a jig for the frame using drywall screws and blocks of 1/2 plywood and some other small pieces of plywood as keepers to prevent the frames from jumping out of the jig. i used the WW seals and it worked fine. second one gave me some minor trouble because one of the rivets had a rough edge to it. i stomped it down and gove it another try. worked fine. |
