Here it is, after reading through these forum for about three months a bought a 1969 beetle. I plan on restoring it with some upgrades, maybe a 2275 engine and lowering it over the next three years through highschool, as you can tell the car is “Savanna Beige” and it has always been stored in a garage, It was a commuter vehicle from 1969 up to the mid 90's. these pictures are of about are last two weekends of work.

Just working the body up

First looks underneath.

How we're jacking up the back.

Up! Finally,

Pan in the garage

Beam,

The bare pan,

Cancer,

The next weekend.

Getting ready to drop the engine.

My dad with the engine on the ground.

Pan with no engine.

Removing the CV joints, and doing it so fast the picture is blurry!

Woohoo no transaxle!

It's raining, Not an uncommon thing around here :(

Striping the tar board.

That’s it for now.

The car looks pretty rust free for where you live. Keep posting your photo's of the progress you make as we all enjoy restoration links.

Man, if I had a car that looked that good to start with, I would call it done and drive the wheels off of it! :D

Doing a body-off resto, I can only imagine this being exceptionally nice when it's finished. 8)

Yes and that thing looked like it was in great shape before you took it apart.

Wow, nice car. :D Yes it looks pretty good the only thing shot on the body are the heater channels and the rear decklid is dented up from something. Oh and the car is originally from Smyrna, Georgia.

Hey, i am glad to see that you are posting the pics of your restoration. I dont remeber if you had a bug when i last talked to you tho. I was the one in highschool also.

I love you very much right now since that pic of yours shows the colour my car should have, and I've been searching for some good pics of it for a long time!

Is your paint original and what year is that bug?

german69 Mon Oct 22, 2007 3:49 pm

If you are talking about my bug it is the color (viper red) and is a 69 like all the others on this page. My bug was originaly the tan like Kman's.

Yes the paint is OG, and the year is 1969.

By the way german69, no I did not have the car last time we talked.

By the way german69, no I did not have the car last time we talked. That will be sweet. My first car was 69 bug. Ever thought about buffing the OG paint out and slapping it back on the restored pan. After all the pait is Only OG once..... :D

Sorry guy's, I was away this weekend.

Tonight I had some time on my hands so I went and attacked the pan with a wire brush.

mustard_madman Sun Nov 04, 2007 9:22 pm

THat drill and a wire brush takes too long.

I stripped my pans and got rid of the tar boards using my dewalt 4 1/2" angle grinder and a course wire wheel brush cup from harbor freight.

If you dont have a good angle grinder, I recommend one. Even my $30 black and decker from Walmart works well.

The process looks good though!!!

Hi guys! I also have '69 german bug (1st and only bug I have). It's a very great year model. Reliable "H" engine. Love it then, love it 'till now :D

Today after everyone recovered from a cold, I went downstairs and worked on the car with my dad. We removed the drivers side pan, and found the technique part way through, Which is to just hammer on the chisel up the pans till it gets stuck, then pull it back with some vice grips and start over.

All of the spot welds drilled out :D

Working up the pan

Almost done

Cutting out the back to make life easier

Part of the pan

Grinding the ledge smooth

It fits!

Anyone know what that thing is in the middle? It's made of some sort of metal welded on just behind the drivers seat

What are your plans for the car?
